Kindergarten overload

My oldest daughter is a kindergarten teacher.

This is her 8th year of teaching. All 8 years at the same school. She loves her school, her administration and her co-workers. She loves teaching and is one of those teachers who was meant to be a teacher: kind, caring, patient, creative....I could go on and on. But you know what I mean.

This school year the State of Georgia has decided to cut teacher pay by 2% AND to "furlough" teachers for 4 days. The four days to be between now and the end of the year. Those furlough days are without pay.

School started Monday.

There are 27 children in my daughter's class....as there are in the other 2 kindergarten classes in her school. The "limit" is 23.

Of those 27 children, five are only 4 years old.

Thank GOD my daughter has a WONDERFUL paraprofessional (aka "teacher's aide) who works side by side with her everyday. I don't know that one person could handle all those children alone.

Another kindergarten class will be added, but not until after labor day. So these children (and teachers) will have to make the best of it, get into some sort of routine and then have all that disrupted. All because of poor planning and budget cuts.

I want to help....have offered to go everyday and help babysit...because...let's face it: at this point and with that many kids there's a lot of babysitting to be done.

My daughter has turned down my offer for now.

Her words: "Mom, there wouldn't be any place for you to sit."

The one where Pissy is a "stalkerazzi"

Ok, y'all.

I did it!

I watched the filming of a scene from one of my favorite new shows: "Drop Dead Diva"!

Call me a geeky-star-stuck-stalkerazzi, but I loved every minute of it!

So interesting to see how everything was set up, all the crew, the extras, the equipment, the continuous take after take after take. Didn't envy them that! It was funny to me to see the same empty Marta bus go back and forth on that same part of the block. The extras being "released" to walk back and forth on the sidewalk next to the restaurant at just the right moment. I mean, really? Who even notices them?!?!? I don't! LOL

The crew and the police were very tolerant of all the gawkers like me. And all the gawkers were very polite and cooperative....probably like me: didn't want to be asked to leave. :)

At one point I was fairly close to the star of the show. She and the actress who plays her best friend were standing...waiting for instructions. I guess she felt me staring at her (poor girl!) and she looked over and made eye contact with me and smiled. Of course I got all giddy and said (loudly) "We love you!...We think you're great!" NO, I wasn't using the "royal" we....I meant me and my two daughters....who weren't there with me physically, but were in spirit! ;-) She smiled again and said "thank you so much". I know, right? It takes so little to make me happy. Anyway, I would have LOVED to have asked to take a picture with her, but there was never an opportunity while I was there (around 45 minutes to an hour).

Here are some pictures.

The first two I found online. The only mention of who took them was "Steve took these with his iphone". No link or anything...so thanks, Steve. Very cool iphone pictures! Love that dreamy quality to them. :)

Steve's picture
taken from across the street

another Steve picture.
You can see the "real" name of the restaurant on the side of
the building "Parker's on Ponce.

Aren't they cute!

LOVE Brook Elliot who plays the main character, Jane.
(That's my favorite Starbucks! EEEEEEE!!! LOL)

This picture and the rest were taken by me with my
Blackberry. I had my camera with me, but
I wasn't sure if regular cameras would be allowed
so I didn't get it out of my bag.

They made the patio look so nice with all the potted plants and flowers.

I'm thinking pink velour makes anyones butt look big(ish)

So that's it, cats and kittens.

For now anyway.

I found out yesterday that a scene from a movie starring Kathleen Turner and Britney Murphey (weird combo) will be filming at Raging Burrito on the square August 23rd and 24th.

You know I'll be there!

Which one is it gonna be?

I'm heading back to Atlanta in the morning after a fun and puppy filled 9 days in Enterprise.

While I was gone I missed the filming of some scenes from the new CW series "Vampire Diaries". My daughter told me they were filming within 100 feet of my apartment building!!! ARGH! I HATE I missed that! They also filmed in the cemetery that is around the corner from my apartment. Again: ARGH!

So tomorrow I'm heading back really early.

Some scenes from the Lifetime series "Drop Dead Diva" are being filmed a block or so off the square, which is about 2 blocks from my apartment.

Damn right I'm gonna be there!

WITH my camera!

(Hopefully I won't get kicked out.)

This picture.....

Whoa!

SO much going on there.....

Her face....

Her eyes.....

Her hands...covered...what does that mean?

The dress....

The "collar" of the dress

and of course the bunny ears.

The blue fring-y balls hanging from the ears?

I don't even know where to begin with those.....

Thoughts?

Happy Birthday, Mikey!!!

Today is my husband's 62 birthday.
He didn't want a cake.

Or a party.

Or even to go to dinner with friends.

He wants to play golf today
and grill out tonight
and then watch sports or golf
or "Ice Road Truckers"
on T.V.

So that's what we'll do. :)

Symbolism

Me?

I'm not much for symbolism.

However, even I know there is a lot of it going on in that picture up there.

Now if I could just figure out why pieces of my just-worked-on-expensive-as-hell tooth fell out at dinner tonight.

It doesn't hurt, but I still called the endo's emergency number and spoke to him.

He said it should be fine until I get back next week.

I should have gone Sage's route and just had the damn tooth pulled.

Good Grief!!!!

Yep, it's Sunday in Enterprise.

The Husband has already

(1) walked 4 miles at 6 a.m.
(2) gone to church
(3) left for his all day golf game

The boys are doing their favorite thing.

and I've been to Blockbuster
It's true.
My taste in movies is as all-over-the-place as I am.

80% "chance" of rain this afternoon.

Think I'll save "Knowing" for when it's raining.

Oh!

and don't think the rain will stop the Husband from playing golf.

He has "rain gear".
