Good Day!

Today I:

*Met daughter and friend at Pastries a Go-Go where I sat next to a woman with a Kate Gosslin possum haircut. Could. Not. Take. My. Eyes. Off. It.

*Browsed in Heliotrope and did not buy a thing.

*Saw "The Ugly Truth" at a matinee. We laughed and laughed and laughed some more.

*Shopped at Ross and "Ghetto Macy's". Bought 2 pair of grass green panties (on sale) Holla!

*Took Sadie to the dog park. Love my grand-dog(s).

*Pleasant enough temperature-wise to have my windows open and the a.c. off while watching "So You Think You Can Dance".

Life is good. :)

and the only reason I'm stopped and rummaging in the trunk
is because I'm getting another stack of
cash from my pink box full of money
to put in my purse.

I'm afraid to say "what next?"

Here I am this morning.

Sort of excited because my hair is almost long enough to put up.

It was right after this that the temporary crown
the dentist put in yesterday fell off.

Yep.

Right outta my mouth like I hadn't spent 2 hours in the dentist's chair
yesterday afternoon. My mouth, tooth and gum being poked
and prodded for proper fit.

*sigh*

The dentist was AFTER I'd been to the endodontist, where he finished
his work on the root canal and I paid him ANOTHER $235.00
This after paying $855.00 the last time I was there.
Turns out our insurance company is only paying
$357.00 of the entire procedure.
I appreciate the endo's secretary calling
me the day before my appointment
to inform me of the additional charge.
I also appreciate the fact that I was able to pay the $235.00
What do people do who don't have insurance?
Or the money to pay for dental care?

Then....
(yes, there's more)
when I checked in at the dentist's office (right down the hall from the endo)
I asked what the charges would be for the crown.
"$1,000.00", the receptionist told me.
"We expect your insurance company to pay 50%."
So I will have to pay $500.00 MORE dollars to have
this ONE tooth finished!!!!

All this is on top of our little Maltese, MoMo being stricken with
pancreatitis last week
and spending 3 days in doggie hospital on IV antibiotics.
Vet bill? $650.00

Thank God and a good vet that MoMo recovered.

Some new pictures of my "nest"

It's been almost exactly 60 days since I moved to my little studio here in Decatur.

I've finally gotten curtains up and have given up trying to hang anything on the walls that can't be hung using 3M products. We ( oldest daughter) were only able to hang curtain rods by hanging the rod on the actual wooden frame of the windows. *sigh* Not what we would have done normally, but you have to work with what you've got, right?

So.....

I had a feeling......

I started this post on the 16th....got distracted....thought I'd saved it...then thought I'd lost it. Found it a minute ago.
So.... since y'all were with me for the good, exciting, fun part of the possibility of what I thought would be a dream job, I felt it only fair to share the not-so-fun part with you as well.

I haven't posted about this, because I thought I was over-reacting, being paranoid, etc. But Monday when I had the second interview with the store manager (a female about my age) I got a weird vibe from her. For one thing, pretty much everything she told me about the job was the opposite of what the receiving manager who had interviewed me had told me.

For instance:

*The job is "seasonal" as in only until the beginning of September. MAYBE longer, they weren't sure at this time. I was not told that at the first interview. At the first interview I was told it was part-time...which I was fine with. But permanent part-time. Not 5 weeks worth.

*I would be required to move furniture. Or in the words of the female manager: "Everyone here does everything." Really? Because the other manager told me I would NEVER have to move furniture. That's what the stockroom guys do. That's why they're stockroom guys.

Those are just a couple of examples.

The female manager also commented several times about how "some people think this is the job for them and once they start they discover it isn't"......how "we don't dress-up at this store like the do at the showroom store". Ummmmm...ok....yes, I had on a solid color black dress, snakeskin gladiator sandals and minimal make-up...which I felt was appropriate attire for a second interview for a part-time position in a catalog outlet store. What did she expect? Sweats and a t-shirt?

The manager referred to my application several times and commented on my many years at the District Attorney's office. What had I done since then, etc. I answered honestly about my work for the lab doing genetic testing and my temp work as a legal secretary. I got the impression from this woman that she thought I was too good to work there. I don't know if that makes sense or not. Yes, I realized I was overqualifed. But I was looking forward to starting anew....at the bottom.....in an industry that I have such an interest in and with the hope that it might lead to something else. While at the same time simply doing a job that wouldn't be stressful, and would put me in an atmosphere with beautiful home furnishings (which we all know I adore).

It was not to be. While the manager was very pleasant and chatty during our 30 minutes together, I had a feeling that she wouldn't be hiring me. She did have me complete the form giving the company permission to do a background check (for a part-time job? Seriously?) and told me I would hear from them by Thursday.

I did hear from them on Thursday.

I received a letter in the mail Thursday (from the manager) telling me they could not offer me a position at this time.

In order for me to receive a letter from her on Thursday....when I'd only interviewed on Monday...she would have had to mail it on...what? Tuesday?

Of course I can't finish this post without noting that the manager was around my age.....no make-up, twill pants, solid polo shirt and white tennis shoes. Non-discript haircut.

The group will also include my daughter, her sister-in-law,
and a cousin.

One step closer and a birthday

I was pleasantly surprised (read "shocked") to get a phone call this morning asking me if I could come in on Monday (the 13th) for the 2nd (and last) interview!!!! Yippee!!!

So yeah!

One step closer to working for a company that sells European-style home furnishings

I won't even TELL y'all what the employee discount is...

Library card and other exciting news

As most of you know by now, I read.

All the time. Always have, always will.

I own hundreds of books and have donated hundreds more (to the library in Enterprise mostly). I own so many books that both my daughters have some of my books in their homes and I don't even miss them until I see them on a shelf or a table and think: "Oh, HERE'S that book!"

I still buy books all the time. I bought a great one last week..... "The Unit" by Ninni Holmqvist. A dark and thought-provoking novel set in a dystopian future. Just finished it. I ordered two books last night from Amazon.com. They should be here Wednesday. Yippee!!

So of course today I decided that I HAD to have a library card so that I could get on a waiting list for all the other books I want to read but simply cannot buy. Sure money is a bit of an issue, but more than that is the issue of space to keep all these books now that I live in such a small space.

Then....because I hadn't had any retail therapy since at least last Thursday, I went with my daughter to run some errands. Still can't find a cute pink or blue clock like I want, but I did find this sweet lamp and pink lamp shade at Target.

Perfect for the white dresser in my hallway/dressing room.

Now I really DO have exciting news.

Or exciting to ME anyway.

I have a job interview tomorrow at my favorite home furnishings store!

YAY!!!!

I was there last Thursday and saw a sign in the window.
Filled out the application on the spot and got a phone call today.
I interview at 12:30 tomorrow.
So please send good karma my way
because I would LOVE to work there.

Ya know....I keep on sayin' I'm gonna be better at posting and then I never am.

I suck.

I can't seem to have sort of lost my blogging mojo somewhere about the time I moved to Decatur. I think of things I want to blog about and then I don't post.

*sigh*
