I think the quote applies more to women of my generation.
I know that I raised my daughters with the goal of being a successful woman in every sense of the word.
My foremost goal in raising them: that they never have to depend on a man to support them financially.
I was from a place where I was taught to look for, marry and then depend on the best man I could find. My mother....bless her heart....even gave me parameters to follow.
You can see why this quote struck home with me.

ReplyDeleteMy sister pulled me aside at my high school graduation to tell me I was going to college so we would never have to depend on a man like our mother did.
Best advice I was ever given in my life!!
there is only one person you can depend on in this day and age,,,yourself! I was brought up just like you,...I got married right after graduation...

ReplyDeletewell, i am a self sufficient chick, for sure. 42 never married and always paid my own way in life. however, in my case, i think i am becoming the man i would dump. seriously, i am a slob. i am moody. i am afraid of commitment. i haven't saved enough for retirement.
