Here I am this morning.Sort of excited because my hair is almost long enough to put up.
It was right after this that the temporary crown
the dentist put in yesterday fell off.
Yep.
Right outta my mouth like I hadn't spent 2 hours in the dentist's chair
yesterday afternoon. My mouth, tooth and gum being poked
and prodded for proper fit.
*sigh*
The dentist was AFTER I'd been to the endodontist, where he finished
his work on the root canal and I paid him ANOTHER $235.00
This after paying $855.00 the last time I was there.
Turns out our insurance company is only paying
$357.00 of the entire procedure.
I appreciate the endo's secretary calling
me the day before my appointment
to inform me of the additional charge.
I also appreciate the fact that I was able to pay the $235.00
What do people do who don't have insurance?
Or the money to pay for dental care?
Then....
(yes, there's more)
when I checked in at the dentist's office (right down the hall from the endo)
I asked what the charges would be for the crown.
"$1,000.00", the receptionist told me.
"We expect your insurance company to pay 50%."
So I will have to pay $500.00 MORE dollars to have
this ONE tooth finished!!!!
All this is on top of our little Maltese, MoMo being stricken with
pancreatitis last week
and spending 3 days in doggie hospital on IV antibiotics.
Vet bill? $650.00
Thank God and a good vet that MoMo recovered.
The title of this post makes sense now, doesn't it?

Yes, I see why your post had that title! What next ... is something I am saying a lot at the moment too. Never a calm day around here ... *sigh*
ReplyDeleteI hope you get your tooth sorted out again... without a huge bill!
Okay, Pissy....
ReplyDeleteHere's two things Nanny, the World's Meanest Woman taught me:
1) Don't ever ask how bad can it get.
2) NEVER ever ask what next...
Trust me on this...she was right.
I don't have insurance for those sorts of things. Don't have insurance for prescriptions. When I see any practitioner, I tell them right away, "I want you to keep in mind that I am self insured and I need yo to work with me on your price and expected payment schedule." Most adjust accordingly or I don't work with them.
But, that's a commentary about the insurance question you raised and has nothing to do with the fact that in your case, I'm glad you had some small something to help out. Still, the massive costs? Crazy.
I'm sorry that costs are frazzling you right now...even though we've all been there and can understand, it doesn't help you standing in the middle of the shit storm...
A hug?
Well what people like me do is say "pull that MF!"
ReplyDeletethats much cheaper.
The bride had a front chewer knocked out in hi-skool. I currently have 8k in that ONE TOOTH!
after being through many surgeries and proceedures I told the dood that we wouldn't be paying another dime. He acted like I slapped him. He said well then I can't do any work, I then said, sir I'm not a tough guy or anything but if you don't fix her tooth and do it soon it will be you who needs dental work. Well after 10 years of bs the tooth got fixed within 5 months.
I'm feelin your pain for sure.
Chris: yes, I know you understand "what next" with all you have going on in your household right now. Good thing we're strong women, huh? :)
ReplyDeleteHolly: Nanny was right! Smart gal! ;-)
Your insurance situation is an interesting one. I went without health insurance for one year after my divorce. That was a scary year, let me tell ya! Thank goodness my girls were still covered by their dad.
I know everything will be ok. But when things like this happen, it really makes me question what/how other people handle things like this.
Sage: Now why didn't I think of THAT?!?!?!? LOL
Wow! The bride's tooth nightmare sounds bizarre! What is it with dentists, anyway?!?!? My friend Weeza's mom was actually told to leave the dentist's office (she was in the chair!) b/c she didn't have the money to pay THAT day!
Craziness!!!! :(
iyiyiyi! It's been an expensive time for you! I am so sorry about your crown. I hope the dentist makes it all right for you ASAP.
ReplyDeleteHang in there..... And your hair looks fab :-)
Joanna: yes, it has! :( I'm sure the dentist will repair it. tomorrow. :)
ReplyDeleteThanks! :)
I'm glad that you do have the insurance to pay it's part and can afford to pay the rest..you are among the few in America that can. I still have a chipped tooth that I can't afford to have fixed..every time I save up for it..something else crops up and it goes to the back of the waiting list..
ReplyDeletemy hair was about your length and i just cut it off..got tired of the weight and the inability to do anything with it..ha
jacque sue: I'm glad I have insurance too. I thank my husband for that! As for paying for the rest~ we had to dip into savings to do so. I know we're lucky to have any savings to dip into. Believe me~there were years when we had nothing. Again....thanks to my husband and his 33+ years of teaching and having a good retirement/investment situation. Otherwise.....
ReplyDeleteI've been seriously thinking about getting my hair cut super short. I had it that way for years and it was so easy. But then I remember the growing out process and back off. ;-)
When it rains, it pours. Sorry about those big dental bills but happy your little doggie is better. My dog went through the same thing 11 years ago and the final outcome wasn't good.
ReplyDeleteSummer: You've got that right! :(
ReplyDeleteThank you! I'm glad my doggie is better too. I was very concerned about the outcome. Sorry yours wasn't good. :(
I know what it's like not to have dental insurance...it SUCKS!! Being self-employed, health insurance is bad enough! WE had two bad years in a row with expensive claims and we're still paying on them and that's after paying outrageous premiums! Health care reform....please!
ReplyDeleteyorksnbeans: I've been fortunate in that I've always had dental insurance. Well, 17 years as an Army wife~everything was paid for. Since then, BCBS of Alabama has been our insurer. Sadly our dental coverage with them isn't the greatest. But it is better than nothing.>>>
