Payback really IS a bitch.....

.....for all those times I said "white people can't hang"

.....for all those years I've spent in the sun even though I knew I shouldn't

.....for all the sunburns I've had that "turned into tans"

I have sun poisoning....
had to go to the doctor and get a shot and some medication yesterday

then today
when I went for my eye exam,
I was informed that there is a "suspicious" looking
spot on my left lower eye lid
AND
I'm very close to the start of macular degeneration
due to over exposure to the sun without
eye protection.

So....I'll just be here....

in the shade....

from now on....

  1. Holy hell.

I'm so sorry to hear this crapola, Pissy. Hang in there...I'll be the cute, ultra white chick in the shade - ya know, the one slathered in SPF 50, with a wide-brimmed hat on her head? Yeah. That one. (This from a chick who used to cover herself in baby oil and lay out on a tar roof when she was in high school. And get sun poisoning EVERY summer.)

Here's to the suspicious spot being NOTHING. *crossing fingers*

  2. Thanks so much, Buddha Girl.

I hear ya on the bay oil thing...we did that too...in Texas...at the freakin' BEACH!

I've been wearing a hat for the past 6 or 7 years...but the damage was already done.

You keep up that SPF 50! :)

  3. Holy shit! I hope that you're okay! Keep us posted about the 'spot'. I'm sure it's nothing, but it's good you're getting it looked at!

    Shade's not so bad...

  4. That certainly sucks. I hid in the shade the whole week of vacation because I am scared of that shit. Hope it turns out for the best & don't be pretending you can't see just to have an excuse to grope me.

  5. maggie: Thanks! I will keep y'all posted about "the spot"....the doctor said it was probably nothing...but until I know for sure...

rat: you're smart to stay in the shade...especially as fair skinned as you are.

What are you talking about?!?! You'd want me AND my seeing eye dog to grope you! ;-)

  10. It's not bad here in the shade. Really. They found some pre-cancerous growths on my arms last year and I have made dramatic changes. They come back though. So I'm diligent to make sure that I stay out of the sun and include a daily regimen of SPF 50 on my exposed skin.

It's not worth it to risk it just to have more freckles.

  11. Oh damn. I am so sorry to read this news. I'll include you in my prayers and hope the spot is nothing.

I used to tan and go to the tanning bed. I ended up with skin cancer at 24, so I am very anti sun. Problem is most of the damage is done when your young. My son and I always have a struggle when he goes outside because he hates getting the sunblock on.

  12. That does suck, Pissy. I hope the spot turns out to be nothing.

I guess you'll have to drink umbrella drinks under the umbrella.

  13. Wow. Sorry to hear this is happening. I got sun poisoning once when I was about 14....I laid out with - you guessed it - baby oil on my skin! What were we all thinking back then????

  14. Oh, no. I, too, am paying for all of my sun exposure. I'm a burn, peel, freckle girl, had severe burns in my teens, so my dermatologist is always watching something. Good luck, and stay the hell out of the sun. Fake tans smell, but it's better than nothing.

  15. Keep wearing the hat, keep using the sunblock, the sunglasses, etc. My eye doctor told me there are vitamins they can give you for the macular degeneration. She also recommended eating red, yellow and orange veggies as well as the green ones to help.

    Stay Positive!

  17. Ugh, sun poisoning...I feel your pain. I went to Padre one year for spring break and spent my first day out in the sun, for several hours, without any sunscreen on and drunk off my ass. I was bedridden for several days after that. :-(

You probably don't need to be told this, but just in case, you should be especially vigilant for skin cancer.

  18. I'm so sorry to hear that! I've had to resort to wearing hats and lots of sunscreen. Next to sun poisoning, there is nothing worse than a sunburned head! Keep us posted on the spot.

  19. I know how much the sun means to you. I'm sorry to hear about these developments. If it makes you feel better, I think you are gorgeous, even without a tan.

  20. but you've probably got enough vitamin d to kill a horse.

  21. This white girl use to get sun poisoning all the time. I have to go to the tanning bed at the start of the summer just so the sun won't fry me up like piece of bacon. Just go on and live life. You need the sun to help you make vitamin D.

  22. Woman,
I am right there with you. I grew up tanning with baby oil and iodine and then basking in tanning beds for the extra dark savage tan. I've already had one basal cell cancer on my back and I'm just 36. Scared the shit out of me. I am faithful with sunscreen and hats now...I'm too fabulous to die. What would the world do without me?
Who said pasty white thighs can't be sexy????

  23. i'm so sooory..this is terrible...
i used to sun all the time , had the best tan you ever saw..then bam..i became allergic to the sun and my lips would blister, my scalp, my face..after only being out for half hour or so...so i know how hard this will be...but just think..now we can call you faux mexican..

  24. Yikes, sorry to hear it. Hope all turns out well!

  25. ooooooooooooooooooooo nooooooooo! That sucks. I'm bad, too. We hardly get sun in Seattle, but when we do I'm in it and when we don't I enjoy the tanning beds. Time to clean up me act. Hang in there, girlie. :(

  26. I hope that everything is ok. Be sure to update when you can. You can sit in the chair next to me and my powder white self. Take care!

  27. Okay. That sucks. Everyone knows a good tan is mandatory for cute summer dresses.

Spray ons from now on, Ms. Pissy.

Hoping your eyes are fine and as beautiful as ever.

  28. The sun's a bitch. Good luck with it all!

  29. I've had 2nd degree sunburn three times. It took the 3rd time for me to realize that the sun makes me sick. I use SPF-50 or greater now and a self-tanner.

You would so rock the spray on tan! Do it!

  30. Sorry to hear that BP.

As it is, I sort of prefer darker, shadier places ...by "shadier" I mean dimly lit, not scary-sketchy.
