I'm a MAJOR fan of "LOST". I've never missed an episode. I have to watch it. Kinda like the early years of the "X-Files" and "Buffy".....addicted. That's me.I know there are others of y'all out there ....never miss it, talk about the "theories" all the time, ponder over what "it" all means.....just like me.
I read the following in last week's TV Guide. A little article at the bottom of a page titled:
"Manifest Destiny"
What it might be: a "sickness" is causing those infected to hallucinate and/or manifest their fears. I've actually thought this myself once or twice. But this show keeps you guessing so much.....
Evidence: The whispers, the visions, the psychic dreams, the smoke moster; the child snatching Others who claim they only take the "good ones"; Danielle, who killler her ship's crew claiming they were sick; the hatch, with its exits stamped "Quarantine", stocked with drug vials marked with the numbers. Hmmmmmm...makes sense to me...
*The Dharma Initiative is a psychological experiment designed to determine how long the surviviors can be controlled.
Evidence: Press the button every 108 minutes...or else; the mention in the "Orientation" video of B.F. Skinner, the rat-in-a-cage guy. (There was also a mouse head embedded in the film.) ....also makes sense, but I don't care for this theory as much...
*The show's many religious elements signify the establishment of a new society in anticipation of apocalyptic events.
Evidence: They all needed a clean slate, left no one behind and are linked together in pre-island life; multiple nationalities are represented among the crash survivors; either Walt or Aaron may be the Antichrist or the Second Coming. ....I like this theory and think it'd be cool if this was the correct one....I love apocalyptic themed movies.....they facsinate me. What can I say? I'm just weird that way.
What it's not: (per producers): Purgatory; one survivor's imagination; time travel; aliens
.....Good! 'Cuz I don't like any of those theories.
Obiviously the italized areas above are my thoughts about each theory.
So tell me. What are your thoughts about each theory?

ReplyDeleteI'm with ya buddy. I like the 'controlled experiment' idea. It makes perfect sense. However, so does the 'manifestation of fears' idea. Hmmm. Maybe they work together. How do we control a group by injecting them with fear hallucinations? Which is the dependent variable? Hmmm. I agree that the bottom four ideas are horrible and I'd be pissed if someone woke up... I'm not sure about the religious one- too weird.
ReplyDeleteI love this show too. and at first, i spent a lot of time trying to figure it out. then decided that the writers didn't have any more of a clue than i do. so now, i just watch and enjoy and don't expend too many brain cells on what's going on. i just take it for the enjoyment/suspense factor.

C'mon....the religious one would be cool! Kinda like one of my favorite books~Stephen King's "the Stand" or how about one our favorite movies "28 Days Later"?

cole: I agree with you (1st paragraph). I used to be wayyyy more into figuring it out. Then it started to piss me off and I just quit. One theory after another. that's one reason I liked this article: concise!

as for Oprah....it was a small segment of the show. She also had Rachel Ray on there cooking/eating and Gayle went to the 21 hamburgers you have to eat before you die....the grey's stuff~ they were on set, very casual, joking around. they did talk to meredith, burke, bailey, izzy, alex, george, addison~ for like 30 seconds each. they were all just funny/cute. they spoke to the producer the longest. she really couldn't give anything away.

ReplyDeleteThe controlled experiment scenario makes sense, I think. The big question there, though, is how did they crash the plane? Also, if you noticed, the last time they had to reset the clock, they almost missed it, and those weird characters appeared on the screen. Keep an eye out for them somewhere down the line...
Oh, btw... I was a Buffy-aholic, myself, and not just because SMG is hot. ;)

I really like the religious theories. I do not know very much about religions, but I have been saying, pretty much since the beginning, that there are LOTS arrows pointing to that.
I like what I have seen of this show, which is only like the first five episodes.
