Pissy's Got the Funk

I wanted to post about this Friday, but blogger was being all weird and shit. Since I would have been pissed if I'd posted and then lost it, I waited.

But I was so excited at my "find" that it was really hard to wait this long to tell y'all about it!

We have a new radio station here in Hell that plays nothing but "Old-school and today's R&B". Ya'll just don't know how happy that makes me. Up 'til now, I had like three radio stations to choose from. Really. Three. Everything else I could pick up was Country.

Anyway, this station plays the "8:00 Four-Play" that I listen to on my way to work everyday.

Yes, I should already be there at 8:00. I never am. That's a whole other story.

So the other morning, they play 'Lady Marmalade' by Patti LaBelle, followed by 'Word Up' by Cameo. I was in Heaven! I love those songs and never get to hear them. I was telling City that I needed to download them or something.

Then Friday afternoon at Wal-mart I found this:

OH YEAH!!!!!

Check out the song list:

All by the original artists!

Need I say there was dancing en la Casa de Pissy Friday night?

*editor's note* wish y'all could have seen the look on the cashier's face. Young black chick. She looks at the CD.
She looks up at me.
She looks at the CD again.....

I know she's thinking "what the hell does this older latina woman want with a "Funk" CD?"
I just stand there.....acting all innocent....daring her to say something.
HAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!

  1. Ooh-Lady Marmalade--Love it!

I saw your comment on my blog about the Southern Poverty Law Center. Pissy--I am familiar with Montgomery. Montgomery is a good place to check into a motel and kill yourself. That's about it :)

  2. *sigh* Yeah, you're right about Montgomery....

20 months until Sweet Man retires and I can leave Hell.

Not that I'm counting or anything ;)

  3. Hey BP - Thanks for stopping by my blog! I LOVE Lady Marmalade too - although I have to say I'm partial to the remake! Good for you on scoring a great cd! Nothin' like a "quicker picker upper!"

  5. Great buy! I like the part where you describe the look on the cashier's face.

Maybe she was thinking "Damn, I work here and never knew we carried such a fine cd"

Anyhow, I go on HOT LIPS blog a lot and found you there.

  6. Hey Rebecca: I like the remake too! Usually I don't like remakes~but they did a good job with that one :)

I've seen your comments on some blogs and I decided to visit yours~it's cute!

Ben: Oh, you know I did! :) Sweet Man and I danced around in the living room in front of the picture windows. I'm sure the neighbors thought we were nuts!

I love ALL the songs on there!

Pixie: yeah, Kool and the Gang are a really old band~guess check-out chick didn't think I looked the "funk" type maybe? hee hee!

Chelsea's Mama: Thanks for stopping by! Hot Lips is fun, isn't she? :)

I was surprised to find the CD~ so maybe you're right about the
    cashier!

  7. Pixie: I forget to say~I'm not a C&W fan either, but I have to be careful expressing that anywhere but here b/c most people in Hell LOVE that crap!

  10. "Shaft" by Isaac Hayes

"You Sexy Thing" by Hot Chocolate

"Tell Me Something Good" by Rufus with Chaka Khan

    It's all good baby.

  11. You think you've got it bad with just three stations to choose from...I have ONE. There are about 87 country stations and one rock station; talk about being in hell! Now, as I mentioned over at Pixie's, I like the old Motown stuff, and even some of the funk. For the Love of Money is a great song, as is Love Rollercoaster. Remember the urban myth about that song? That the girl screaming in the middle of the song was killed as the song was being recorded? Talk about a publicity campaign...

Now I'll be singing "telllll me something gooooood, ahhhhh" all day long! LOL

Erin: Oooohhh...'Shaft" and 'You Sexy Thing' are both favs of mine too! I'm just glad 'Tell Me Something Good' is on there~cuz I never hear it played anymore!

    thanks for stopping by :)

Bruce: I am so sorry....ONE station!?!?!?! That SUCKS! I like old Motown, too. I've never heard anything about that urban legend connected to 'Rollercoaster'! tell me more! :)

    kb: hee hee!!! :)

Miss Jay: Oh, it is! :)

  24. Oooooooh I'm digging that CD!

I teach a lot of minority kids. My first year at my current school the majority of my students were all section eight housing kids. One of them nicknamed me "Cita."

He said, "You're a strong, black woman!"

Now, you've seen Buddha...I'm about as lily white as they come, but I took the kid's comment as a total COMPLIMENT!

    Shake it, Latina woman!

  25. hot lips: do you mean that song that ...."she's a bad mamma jamma"..?

    pixie: oh, yeah!

    ReplyDelete
  27. Could you have anymore comments? HA! I have half of those songs on my iPod. I LoVE grooving with the oldies!

    ReplyDelete
  28. CP: somehow 'Brick House' as your jam doesn't suprise me at all! :) Now I'll always think of you and you 'tude when I hear it! ;)

Sunny: Aren't they great songs? They just make me feel like dancin'~no matter where I am! :)

    ReplyDelete
  29. Yes, Pissy, I live in an area almost devoid of rock and roll. There are a couple of "oldies" and Top 40 stations, but my heart belongs to real rock. There was a second station on in the area, based out of Blacksburg, where VA Tech is, but the frequency it was on here is owned by another station, and they took it back about three months ago.
As far as the urban legend...the story going around at the time was that the "scream" you hear about 2/3 the way through the song was that of a woman being killed somewhere outside the studio. Crazy, huh?

    ReplyDelete
  30. Bruce: Thanks for the explaination! I'd never heard that "myth" before! That is pretty crazy!

    ReplyDelete
  31. We used to have a station like that here...'til the fucked it up and changed the format again. I used to request "Bad Mama Jama" all the time, lol.

    ReplyDelete
  32. tj: yeah, I'm waiting for this format to change :( but I'm gonna enjoy it in the meantime! :)
