My tale begins with this chair that Sweet Man just painted for me. It's currently in it fourth incarnation. When I first brought it home, it was painted white and had a floral seat cushion. It later made its way to Little Pissy's first college apartment where it was painted hot pink and had a black and white zebra covered seat. It sat beside the fireplace (yes, she's that spoiled... her first college apartment had a fireplace) in a room with vaulted ceilings and a Matisse print we call "The Fishbowl" on the wall above the fireplace. The room had a decidedly animal print theme to it, but was very cute (of course) with pink accents.
Next Little P painted the chair black and covered the seat with a solid ecru quilted fabric and used it as a desk chair in her black and creme toile bedroom~which we redid her junior year of college. The animal print days were over....
Now that she's in the big city, she has no use for my chair. And so it has made its way back to Hell and is taking up residence in the master bedroom in its latest and hopefully-final-incarnation.
Redoing this chair led me to the realization that I suffer from an extreme over abundance of chairs.....
"Just how many"..... you may ask.
Or not.
Either way, I decided it would be fun (at least for me) to answer that question by having a photo gallery of the many chairs in Casa de Pissy~
but only those that have a story to tell.....
Blue/white toile: one of my favorites. Purchased newly upholstered at a flea market for my den. Currently in the guest room.Suzy Q wants it.
She can't have it.

rocking chair: bought for its whimsical lines..... and to rock my future grandchildren.
As there are no grandchildren in sight, has yet to be re-done. Or dusted.
Soon to be moved to our storage building to await the aforementioned grandchildren...
wicker and wrought iron Pier One chair: until recently in my living room. On it's way to Little Pissy's city apartment.replaced by.....
Lazy chair: most recent acquistion. Purchased at my friend's shop for a steal.I love it. But it was upon arriving home with this purchase and realizing that I would have to give chairs away to make room for it~ that I have come to the sad conclusion that I have an affliction.......
Its called: Too Damn Many Chairs!
*editor's note* this isn't counting the six others in the house.....or the wing-back I sent to Sweet Man's office...or the one bought at auction that I couldn't resist ~ it was perfect for my office...See? An affliction.....

Where are the fucking pictures? I'm in no mood to not see the pictures.
ReplyDeleteSOMEONE gets cranky when she's sick, doesn't she?!?!?!?
ReplyDeletePoor Big Daddy.....
They're UP, damn it!!!
Good work, Biss. I love them all, but the last one is by far my fave.
ReplyDeleteAnd you are right, poor Big Daddy...for so many reasons.
Yeah, the lazy chair is cool...and really comfortable.
ReplyDeleteI think you need to do a post on all the reasons to feel sorry for Big Daddy. I would soooo enjoy that!
I love the last one best, but I have to admit, the pink with the zebra stripes sounds kind of cool.
ReplyDeleteI understand your 'affliction' - I somehow have about 4,000 bowls in every size, shape and color. It's a sickness.
For me it's tables. *sigh* Mr. Sign worked in retail for many years and I somehow just kept buying them. It was really bad when he worked for the Bombay Company.
ReplyDeleteI like your style!
Rocky: the hot pink w/ zebra cushion was really cute~in the right room.... that's one of the great thing about that chair~its so versitile :)
ReplyDeleteI could easily have a thing for bowls~I see so many cute ones. And they're so affordable!
Jenn: Ohhhhh, tables....!!! that would be the second thing I have too many of :) It helps that I have 2 grown daughters 'cuz we pass stuff around from house to house :)
Bombay Co? I would have LOVED that! :) and thanks!!! :)
You're a chair whore? So what? If people complain, here's your pat response: I could shoot heroin. What's worse?
ReplyDeleteI'm so digging the one you got in your friend's shop! Hippi Chick recently got a GREAT mission rocker at a local place. I swear to you, the price she paid was NOTHING. I'm so jealous. If she looks the other way, I'm stealing it.
Your chair affliction = my gadget affliction.
ReplyDeleteYowza does it suck when it comes time to pay the piper at KB's house!
hey Big Pissy... It Em popping in again to leave you a little note!! As soon as i saw that chair i was like thats little P's chair from college!! OMG... its been painted again?!?! haha... looks good... miss and love ya
ReplyDeleteem
I have a shoe addiction. That's a given. I have a candle fetish. They are everywhere. But the worst problem I have is the deepest source of shame.
ReplyDeleteIt's Ziti. yes...I said it.
Ziti.
Everytime I go to the damn supermarket, I have to buy at least three boxes of ziti. I dont know WHY I have to buy said ziti, but I do. I have, at this moment, 43 boxes of ziti in my pantry. I don't cook, mind you...but for some reason, I have to have ziti noodles around me.
Love Little Pissy's NEWLY acquired chair. Metal and wicker is so sexy.
CP.
Gosh, I was just bitching about how we need a new chair for my living room. Send some my way, Mom... ;)
ReplyDeleteHi from one so-called bitch to another. I love your blog AND I'm covetous of your lazy chair. I'm with Buddhagirl, there are worse things you could have issues with. Doing heroin IN the lazy chair, that would be bad!
ReplyDeleteBuddha Girl: Ooooohhhh...good answer! I'm gonna use that one the next time Sweet Man says something about all my furniture! :)
ReplyDeletekb: yeah, gotta say, your habit IS more expensive than mine :)
EM: Hey! hahahahaha! Yep, 4th time painted! I'm glad to hear from you. Little P & I were just talking about you...and here you are! :) We miss you!!! Be good!
cp: You crack me up!!! LOL!
NWG: Ha! I could send you 3 chairs and still have too many!
Meredith: Hi back at ya! :)
Yeah, you and BG are right...heroin, crack...THOSE would be bad.... :)
Thanks for stopping by!!! :)
I loved that chair! We should have taken pictures all along of its many looks & feels. If only we'd known... or could predict the future... for so many reasons.
ReplyDeleteMiss you! And I've decided I want the chair back. You can bring it up here in February. JK! but not about wanting it back...
little p: Ha! I actually thought about calling you to ask if you had pics of it in its other incarnations. :)
ReplyDeleteAs for you wanting it back...you know what Sweet Man always says about you and me..."Little P thinks what your's is her's" hee hee!!!
I wish I had enough floor space in my house for that many chairs!
ReplyDeleteThere could be worse things to collect.... like stacks of newspapers, laundry that never gets folded, mail that hardly ever gets sorted. Chairs are much better.
I love the last chair and I also love the colour you have on the wall.We have to have white ....its so boring.
ReplyDeleteBut I am glad you are the type of person who recycles and doesnt just get rid and replace for new, such a waste.
kc: me too! lack of space is why I have to move 'em out! :)
ReplyDeleteI could never have too much of the stuff you mentioned....I dislike clutter!
Pixie: thanks! I know what you mean about white walls...there isn't one in my house! :)
I never get rid of furniture~I save it, send it to City or Little P or sell it.
ummm let's see lots of chairs, lots of shoes and you collect T-shirts..
ReplyDeleteI like this Big Pissy person.:))
This is a real syndrome, called "Chair Syndrome" oddly enough.
ReplyDeleteDoctors say it's the way the brain is wired - people cannot stop bringing chairs home. The standard is having more than a 10-1 ratio of chairs to butts in the household.
Get help, pissy...get help now.
I love the blue and white chair. It looks very comfy. The new you just bought at your friend's place is awesome too. I have addictions that I've curbed over the laast year or two. Since I live in a studio, I cannot collect anything as I don't have the room. College textbooks are the only thing I collect. I've been in school so long that I've got the entire editions of certain subjects!!! (not really but it feels like it)
ReplyDeletetop cat: MEOW!!! :)
ReplyDeletePhoenix: I should have known you'd have a scientic reason for all the chairs! hee hee!
reg: It is comfy. and I also collect blue and white china pieces~so it matches.
As for all those textbooks: sell them! that'll five you some case to start a FUN collection! :)
reg: "give you some cash" is what I meant....God! I can't type sometimes... sorry!
