"Fuller Figured Shopping Diva"

Does she really look "fuller figured" to y'all?

She really doesn't to me....a little "pear shaped" maybe...but not "fuller figured".

What the hell does that mean anyway?

But the illustration is titled "Fuller Figured Shopping Diva"......One of my neices is getting married in August. On Galveston Island. It's going to be a fairly formal wedding, so even though I have more clothes than 3 people will ever wear~I felt the need to buy a new dress for the rehearsal dinner.

Of course I found one on sale. $22.00 marked down from $70.00. It's black silk with some tasteful boho looking beading on the bodice.....sweetheart neckline....strappy but not too revealing...I love it!

It's a size 8.

There is no way in hell that my fat ass is a size 8. Haven't been a size 8 for several years now. Yet, this size 8 fits me perfectly.

Don't worry. I have no illusions about this. I know it's a fluke.

Know why?

I went to GAP right after I bought this size 8 dress and tried on some pants.

Guess what size fit me there?

16!!!! Yeah! 4 sizes bigger than the dress!

Now I know I'm no size 8. But I also know th
at I'm not a 16.

Yet.

12....14....that's the usual size I buy for my pear shaped self.

Jeez!!!! No wonder so many American women have eating disorders!

This is what the fashion industry thinks we should all look like....
and what many women strive for~

stick insects....

  1. I couldn't agree more! Clothes seem to keep getting smaller and smaller to me.
Glad that you found a dress...sounds beautiful!

  2. never buy mossimo jeans at target. they are like eight sizes too small than what the label indicates.

    v. depressing.

  3. Isn't that the truth - they want us to be emaciated and unhealthy. The 'fuller figured shopping diva' does not look fuller figured at all to me.

    The dress sounds gorgeous!

  4. Your dress sounds wonderful! Please post a pic.

I'm a "full-figure" myself. That's a much nicer way of saying I am fat. And getting larger all the time even though I don't eat more than I used to. Getting old does that, I guess.

  5. peachie: I know! You can't go by sizes anymore! It really is a pretty dress!

de: and yet another reason why I don't wear jeans....

erin: I think there's just so much pressure to be thin these days... I didn't think she looked fuller figured either!
It is a pretty dress~I was thrilled to find it!

kc: I would have posted a picture, but it doesn't photograph well for some reason. It's probably b/c I suck at photography!

and I so fell you pain on the "full-figure" issue.....I'm the same way: don't eat more than I used to~yet get larger anyway.

Yep! It's the getting older doing it!

  6. Screw Madison Avenue!

    Sing it, sister!

  7. Maybe they were complementing her conditioner saying she had full fluffy hair.

It's WOMEN that make all you WOMEN nuts. You're all vicious to each other.

Stop teaching young girls that crap!!!!!

  8. I think the diva looks like she has big hips because of all the crap she is carrying. I wish I were that fat ;-)

I'm impressed with the price of the new dress. That was a deal.

  9. So true! I even had first graders last year talk about diets and being too fat. How sad is that!?!?

The dress is super cute! I'm so glad you found it!

  10. I think my thigh might be a size 8. The left one. My right one is a 10. Put that together and it equals shopping at the chubby-mama shop.

  11. Amen, sistah.

My wardrobe ranges from a size 12 straight on up to a size 20 for things I have bought during the same week, yet at different stores! It's insane.

I think someone finally figured it out. Let a woman THINK She's a size 8, and she will keep coming back to your store all the time to get more size 8's. *L*

Treat us like the delusional needy women we are...why the hell not? You know who designs these outfits?

    MEN!

Sing it out, Pissy. You are smart with a capital SMART!

Raise your girls differently, with self esteem and not to bend to the number on a waistband. Wear what feels good on and what you feel good in. Numbers be damned!

    CP.

  12. mr fab: I'm doing my part! :)

rat: heh! Don't yell at me! I have to grown daughters who are normal sized, well-adjusted women. No stick insects in my family! ;-)

signgurl: I think the diva has a normal woman's hips. ;-)

My dress was a great deal!

gabelle: that really is crazy! First graders on a diet! Sad....

I'm glad I found it too! I'll bring it with me to Atlanta so you can see it "in person". :)

cynical girl: you have a thigh that's a size 8?

A few years ago I would've been jealous of that.

Now I'd be happy to be a 10 or a 12 on a regular basis.

hot lips: Hi! What 'cha doin'?

  13. Sizing for woman is just strange to me. Mens pants just show how many inches around and how many inches long. No confusion there.

  14. *looking myself over*

Yeah. Stick? Not so much. I'm a curvalicious chick and will not apologize for it.

Can't wait to see pics of you in that SIZE 8 dress! HOLY CRAP.

I'll bomb the GAP for ya. Travesty I tell ya.

  15. ugh...I hate clothes shopping, I can never find the sizes for me and then I usually end up frustrated and pissy. That is why I never buy clothes for myself

  16. One thing that really PISSES me off is the media pressure for us all to look perfect all the time ond if you are not slim, pretty with shiny hair (or even have hair (men)) the you are not fit to walk the earth

  17. Some stores make bigger size 8's to make the customers happier, I was reading an article about it in Cosmo a few months ago. Which is a pain in the ass here because size 8s are getting to be too big in some stores for me.

    ReplyDelete
  18. I think sizes on clothes is a cruel joke! I just buy whatever fits and don't worry about what the tag says.

    ReplyDelete
  19. That's our society! Gotta love it! I HATE to tey on clothes, grrrrrr...

  20. You think the "fuller figured shopping gal" is depressing. I was at work yesterday and got a letter on a patient from another doctor. He started it out by saying "As you know so and so is a middle aged white female" She's 35!!!!! Which is two years younger than me! I'm not middle aged dammit. I've been in a funk ever since.

  21. That is sooo true! Sizes are crazy. I know you will have a great time at the wedding and in Galveston. I love that place. Enjoy!

    ReplyDelete
  22. I think it depends on the store, the brand, I bought jeans once and they were a 4! I also bought some capris at the same place and they were an 11! Who the hell knows, besides I like my curves and when I lose weight my boobs are the first to go. And no one needs a cranky flat chested woman!

  23. I'm a little confused by this apparent fixation on fashion sizes.
All men know the numbers mean nothing. Every woman born is going to try on every dress in the shop, no matter what it looks like.
And then hide the size of the one she does buy and lie like hell over it.

    :)

  24. I read (yeah, I read ALOT) that the average american woman is a size 16 and the average bra size is a 38C.

I'm so glad I'm not average.

    ReplyDelete
  25. If that is fuller figured than that is what I wanna be and proud of it!

    ReplyDelete
  26. i like that: "stick insects"

the other current in what women should look like is what i call the "two grapes on a toothpick" look

you know like the maxim or playboy or wild-on ladies...

out of interest is that an american size 8, or a european size 8, or an asian size 8, or a big size 8, or a small size 8, or a cheap size 8 or an expensive size 8?

    [women's clothing sizes - sheesh]

i prefer men's clothing sizes. not nearly as much guesswork - an a 17 neck means a 17 inch neck.

sizes that have some relationship to empirical measurements...

    ReplyDelete
  27. fuller figure my ass. we is what we is....sizes mean nothing. If it fits buy it, tear the size off before you even look at it. I have noticed that when people are describing someone they will say...she is thick....what the hell is that? What are we? milkshakes now?

    ReplyDelete
  28. The picture should say "F*ing great looking hot woman shopping!" and the fashion industry is crazy!

  29. Heh...

    you chicks are alright!

Keep uh..keepin us safe by trying on those tight pants =P

  32. Ha! Fuller figured? THAT'S stretching it. I think 'not anorexic' is as far as I'd go on that one.

And congrats on the size 8...most likely, your inherent hotness is just sizzlin' away the sizes. Yowza! :)

  33. I read somewhere that if clothing were sized now as it was in the 50s Marilyn Monroe would be a 14. I love that woman.... and I miss the days when curvy was a good thing. I'll take a Marilyn body over some evil stick figure any day. Your gorgeous woman!!
